As the Northern Territory Inclusion Agency, our mission is to promote inclusive practices in early childhood services across the country. We are thrilled to share the Sensory Tool and Equipment Library (STEL) initiative in early childhood services, including your child's centre.

The Sensory Tool and Equipment Library is a resource designed to provide a diverse range of sensory tools and equipment that address the unique sensory needs of each child. These tools aim to improve concentration, alleviate anxiety, and develop essential motor skills. By introducing the STEL initiative, we are ensuring that all children have the opportunity to benefit from this valuable resource.

Some of the sensory tools and equipment included in the STEL are:

1. Fidget tools and stress balls: These can help children release stress and improve focus by providing a healthy outlet for excess energy.

2. Weighted blankets and toys: These offer a calming effect for children who may feel overwhelmed or anxious, providing gentle, deep pressure stimulation.

3. Noise-cancelling headphones: These can help children who are sensitive to noise concentrate better in noisy environments.

4. Visual aids and schedules: These can support children in understanding daily routines, transitions, and activities.

5. Sensory seating options: These include wiggle cushions and therapy balls that encourage proper posture and help children maintain focus.

ECA, in collaboration with the early childhood services, will provide ongoing guidance, training, and support to educators and care staff in the effective use of these sensory tools and equipment.

We encourage open communication between parents, caregivers, guardians, and the early childhood services staff. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's centre if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about the STEL initiative.
