Inclusion Support: Hermannsburg, MacDonnell District, in January 2017

Some of the barriers we face when travelling in Central Australia are completely out of our hands.

A planned trip to Hermannsburg, 126 km (two hours) west of Alice Springs, to visit the early learning centre and the vacation care program was futile. Approximately 10 km out of Hermannsburg the river had broken its banks and was impassable to all vehicles from the standard sedan to 4WD and trucks. Our only option was to turn our vehicle around. After a quick stretch of our legs, a number of spectacular photos being taken, it was back into the 4WD.  Despite this frustration the trip itself was a valuable networking opportunity for ECA and MacDonnell Region officers, as we returned to Alice Springs discussing the programs whilst admiring the incredible greenery flashing by our car window.
